Role:
A Recovery Resolutions Assistant works to achieve the credit union's mission and member promise statements by preserving credit union assets and financial counseling and coaching of members.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Contacts delinquent borrowers regarding account status, collecting payments, advising and counseling borrowers on repayment options, and/or developing strategies for debt repayment and follow-thru. Work with members to establish payment arrangements as necessary and collect and document delinquent accounts in accordance with departmental and legal guidelines.
Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; making loss mitigation recommendations as necessary (ex: payment plan, repossession, small claims, suit) based upon the results of the analysis and communications with the borrower(s).
Establish, maintain, and retain accurate collection files and records for all applicable accounts, ensuring proper and timely notices and professional communications are provided to all borrowers in compliance with credit union policies and procedures and the rules and regulations that govern them.
Work with the credit union’s legal counsel, small claims, district and bankruptcy courts, repossession agencies, etc. to mitigate credit union losses. Participate and/or testify in legal proceedings as deemed necessary and required for all applicable collection accounts, preparing all necessary documentation and communications for timely, proper, and professional credit union representation.
Assist in the recovery and collection of charged-off debt in compliance with established federal and state rules and regulations and credit union policies and procedures for delinquent accounts. Recover monies otherwise deemed uncollectable either due to delinquency date, collateral value or borrower’s ability to pay. Post payments on charge off accounts.

1. | Maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts. |
2. | Collect on assigned delinquent accounts in a timely, professional, and compliant manner, ensuring prompt contact with all borrowers regarding re-payment intent and providing solutions and proper notifications. |
3. | Resolve member, employee, and third party inquires in an accurate, timely and professional manner, communicating solutions to all necessary parties. |
4. | Maintain accurate, complete, and up to date collections files and records, identifying and informing management of potential loan underwriting or collection issues. |
5. | Follow established policies and procedures and maintain compliance with the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and all relevant regulations, aiding in the development of collection procedures and staying current on changes in collection regulations, policies, procedures, and industry practices. |
6. | Provide informed and accurate service and support to all members, employees, and third-party vendors and associates by responding to messages, correspondence, or other communications in a timely and professional manner. |
7. | Actively advise members and/or employees on financial wellness strategies and collection processes to achieve or exceed 100% of established individual, department, and credit union strategic performance goals. |
8. | Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with credit union policies, procedures, and collection activity trends and best practices including associated government rules and regulations. |
Additional Desired Attributes:
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience | One year to three years of similar or related experience. |
Education | A high school education or GED. |
Interpersonal Skills | Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. |
Other Skills | Financial counselor certification. |
